King James School of Nursing and Midwifery Lira Improves Nursing Education in Lango Progressively

The Deputy Principal of King James School of Nursing and Midwifery Lira, Mr. Samuel Odongo, has applauded the Executive Director of the school, Mr. Dick Odongo, for being a hardworking proprietor who has progressively made the school succeed and achieve a quality medical training standard in Northern Uganda and beyond.

King James School of Nursing and Midwifery Lira has been known as a beacon of excellence in nursing education since 2015.




Samuel was addressing a team of journalists from the school in his office on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. He also emphasized the institution’s commendable commitment to grooming and producing highly skilled and disciplined medical professionals.




“For more than 10 years, King James School of Nursing and Midwifery Lira has consistently shone in the field of nursing education,” Odongo stated. “Our graduates have made a significant contribution to the health sector, both locally and internationally, and we take pride in the quality of the training we provide,” added the Deputy Principal.




He narrated that the school’s success is due to its dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and a curriculum that aligns with global healthcare standards. He also highlighted the school’s emphasis on practical training, which ensures that students are well-prepared to handle real-world healthcare challenges in nursing and midwifery.

“Our students undergo training, both in the classroom and in clinical settings. This hands-on approach has been instrumental in shaping competent and confident healthcare professionals,” Odongo stated.

The Deputy Principal also noted that the school has consistently achieved impressive results in national examinations, with many of its graduates securing top positions, terming it as a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and its focus on holistic student development.




In an interview with the Executive Director of the school, Dick Odongo disclosed to the media that King James School of Nursing and Midwifery Lira remains a trusted institution for knowledgeable nurses and midwives, and it is therefore going to remain a legacy of excellence for many years to come in the Lango sub-region and Northern Uganda as a whole.

Odongo added that since the school opened in 2015, it has grown from an initial enrollment of just 60 students to the current enrollment of over 800 students who are pursuing both nursing and midwifery programs at various levels.

This progress can be attributed to the adequacy and excellence of the teaching staff. There are 22 teachers who are very committed both in class and during their placements, which are conducted in Apac, Gulu RRH, and Kitgum General Hospital, where students conduct their clinical practices, and, moreover, in support of their parents.




King James School of Health Sciences is situated in Ongica B Cell, Anai Ward, Lira City West Division, Lira City, in the Lango sub-region. Under the leadership of Managing Director Dick Odongo, the institution has made notable advancements in education throughout the northern region of Uganda and beyond.

Meanwhile, a parent of one of the students, identified only as Richard Okello, commended the administrators of King James School of Nursing and Midwifery, describing its remarkable success as witnessed academically in both the Nursing section and King James Secondary School respectively.

Mr. Samuel Odongo said the school has been progressing since 2015 and now it has made a very great improvement of 99.6 percent pass rate, whereby at one point they took their celebration of best performance to Tororo district, located in the Eastern part of Uganda, since many students studying in the school are from Eastern Uganda.
