Kyambogo University Woodball Team Targets Ongoing Dominance After National Games Triumph

After a stellar performance at the recently concluded AUUS National Games, Kyambogo University’s woodballers have set their sights on continued dominance in the sport. The men’s team secured five gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, surpassing perennial winners Ndejje University and relegating them to second place among eight men’s teams. The Kyambogo girls also achieved a team bronze.

Simon Otim and Mugisha Lawrence claimed gold in the Fairway Doubles, while their collaboration with Phillip Nadiope and team captain Trevor Michael Oming secured gold in the team’s Fairway Competition. The team excelled in various categories, winning gold in the stroke doubles, stroke singles, and stroke teams competitions.




Reflecting on their success, team member Daniel Joshua Ekinyang attributed their victory to a determined mindset, teamwork, and unwavering support for each other. He mentioned that they approached the tournament with a “mamba mentality,” aiming for either victory or the opponents’ defeat.




Captain Trevor Michael Oming expressed his long-awaited success, acknowledging past setbacks and emphasizing the importance of learning from mistakes. Oming, eyeing a national team call-up, highlighted his dream to continue playing, win more competitions, and represent the national team.




The Kyambogo girls, including Carol Kiconco, Kash Nalubega, Hajara Namuyiga, Peace Kamoga, Tracy Nantongo, and Caroline Nassaazi, clinched a Fairway-Teams bronze.

The team’s success at the AUUS National Games has fueled their aspirations for future competitions, with individual members eyeing personal achievements and contributions to the national team.
