Makerere University Awards Certificates to 500+ Graduates in Vocational Skills Programme

On December 21, 2023, over 500 students were awarded certificates following a three-month vocational skills training program at Makerere University’s College of Education and External Studies. The training, conducted by the Department of Adult and Continuing Education, received support from Love Binti International.

Dr. David Kabugo, Deputy Director of MITER and the Chief Guest at the graduation ceremony, praised the program for equipping many women trainees with diverse skills, enabling them to create their own job opportunities. He emphasized the importance of vocationalizing higher education to nurture students’ creativity and provide them with practical skills for the job market.




During the graduation, Dr. Stella Achen, represented by Philemon Kirunda, urged the graduates to prioritize honesty in the employment and job creation market to maintain credibility. Mr. Joseph Wakuleke, the Executive Director of Love Binti International, commended the graduates and stressed the importance of honesty in delivering services and managing profits.




Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira, the Makerere University Assistant Bursar, applauded the skilling program as a solution to unemployment in Uganda’s job market. He highlighted the program’s role in providing graduates with practical skills and a clear understanding of their abilities.




Love Binti International, founded in Kenya and introduced in Uganda in 2018, focuses on empowering women and girls in vocational skills. The program aims to address the issue of young people losing direction in secondary school by providing practical vocational skills, enabling learners to create their own jobs and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. This initiative not only fosters creativity but also contributes to the overall development and empowerment of women and girls in Uganda.
