Over 1,700 Students Receive Degrees and Diplomas

On December 8, 2023, Bishop Stuart University held its 19th graduation ceremony at its sports center, Riverside, Kakoba Mbarara. Students from various courses were awarded PhDs, master’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates across four faculties: Law, Education, Business, Nursing, and Agriculture.

The event was graced by Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT, who served as the chief guest. The University Chancellor, Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gasthom were also present.




A total of 1,782 students received awards during this graduation, with 21 students achieving first-class grades. These high-achieving students were recognized with certificates, Bibles, and a cash prize of 500,000 UGX from the University.




The Commissioning Service preceding the graduation function was conducted by the Chancellor and Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, assisted by the University Chaplain.




In his speech, the chief guest expressed gratitude to the board of trustees for supporting government initiatives. He emphasized the importance of developing external partnerships in this era of emerging technology. “I call upon the university administration to continue supporting strict policies from regulators, especially the humanization of the curriculum,” he added.

The minister urged the graduands to celebrate the day, acknowledging the journey of hard work, endurance, and commitment.

The University Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigwa, emphasized the institution’s Christian identity, stating, “We are a Christian university, and everything here is done by God. I urge you not to forget God in everything you do. Always pray and give thanks to God.”




In an interview, one of the graduands, Tumukujiize Johnson, expressed his joy for the day, acknowledging the struggles and sacrifices made. He also thanked his parents and expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life, trusting in divine guidance for the future.
