President Museveni Calls on Teachers to Drive Uganda's Transformation

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has encouraged teachers to use their professional knowledge to bring about positive social and economic changes in Uganda. He emphasized the need for a reevaluation of the education system during his speech at the World Teachers’ Day commemoration held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

During his address, President Museveni pointed out the importance of teachers in shaping the future of Uganda. He expressed concern that some aspects of the education system had contributed to social stagnation or even regression. He urged educators to adopt a more effective approach to knowledge transfer.

The President highlighted three key components of the correct approach to knowledge transfer: the fundamental skills of reading, writing, and counting; the study of society; and the study of nature. He emphasized that these components could either improve people’s well-being or hinder it.

The event, held under the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: the global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage,” was an opportunity for President Museveni to stress the essential role of teachers in the nation’s development.
