Schools in Madi-Okollo Introduce Team Teaching for Primary Seven Candidates

Sunday, October 15, 2023

In preparation for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), several primary schools in Madi-Okollo district, Uganda, have introduced team teaching as a means to address the issue of incomplete syllabus coverage. Team teaching, a collaborative approach where multiple teachers instruct the class together, aims to maximize instructional time and ensure comprehensive syllabus coverage.

The decision to implement this method was prompted by a recent school inspection report from the district education department, which identified the challenge of incomplete syllabus coverage for primary seven candidates.

Kazimiro Ezaruku, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Madi-Okollo district, pointed out that many schools were still focusing on finishing the syllabus when they should be concentrating on preparing for the PLE.

George Ayiba Butele, the District Education Officer, emphasized the importance of engaging all teachers as team instructors to ensure that primary seven candidates are well-prepared for the exams.

Elisa Adriko, the head teacher of Oribu Primary School, noted the significant improvement in candidates’ comprehension and understanding of the material due to team teaching, expressing optimism about its positive impact on the upcoming final exams.

Isaac Bayo, the head teacher at Ajinia Hill Primary School, mentioned the implementation of the team teaching model for other classes, even though they didn’t have candidates registered for the upcoming PLE.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that the PLE for this year will commence with candidate briefings on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Written exams will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, with mathematics and social studies in the afternoon. The exams will conclude on Thursday, November 9, 2023, with integrated science exams in the morning and English in the afternoon, following the UNEB timetable.
