Senior One Selection for 2025 Kicks Off: 2024 Cut-Off Points for Uganda’s Top Schools Revealed

The Ankole Times

Kampala, Uganda  – The 2025 Senior One placement exercise for students who sat the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) begins today 30th, January and will conclude on Friday, 31st Januar at the UMA Grounds, Lugogo.

The exercise will run from 8 AM to 5 PM daily. This follows the release of the 2024 PLE results last week by Janet Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) reported improved overall performance in 2024 compared to 2023, with a pass rate of 91.8 percent, up from 88 percent in 2023. However, the number of candidates achieving Division One declined.

The distribution of results across divisions is as follows: 84,301 candidates achieved Division One, 397,589 in Division Two, 165,284 in Division Three, and 75,556 in Division Four.

Hundreds of thousands of PLE candidates will be placed in secondary schools nationwide during this two-day exercise.

Deborah Basekanakyo, president of the Association of Secondary School Head Teachers of Uganda, confirmed that schools are prepared for the selection process. “The cut-off points are more or less similar to those of last year,” Ms. Basekanakyo explained. “The slight variations are due to differences in the number of learners sitting for PLE each year.”

Following the placement exercise, Senior One students will join continuing students at their respective schools. “We expect the First Term for the Senior One cohort of 2025 to commence on Monday, February 17, 2025,” Minister Museveni announced during the release of the PLE results.
