Richard Onapatum, Iteso – The Iteso Cultural Union Head, Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng, has urged the Iteso to practice cattle keeping, stating that it is a quicker way to achieve wealth.
His speech was delivered on Saturday, June 1, 2024, during an inspiring Alumni Exhibition at the Serere Country Resort. The event brought together successful entrepreneurs from Washington, US, local business leaders, and community stakeholders to share their experiences and insights on entrepreneurship and its role in driving economic growth and development.
The event was hosted by the Entrepreneurial Leadership Development (ELD) Executive Director, John Kokas Oriokot.
The Iteso Cultural Union Deputy Minister of Information and National Guidance, Ochoggia Abdallah, represented the chiefdom and HRH Papa Emorimor. Abdallah emphasized prosperity through animal rearing.
“Ebala Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot ‘Kipit kobar,’” said Abdallah.
This phrase means “rear an animal and be wealthy,” especially cattle, which the Iteso are known for.
He highlighted that the leadership of HRH Papa Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot is committed to changing the mindset of his subjects through agriculture.
The panel discussion featured distinguished entrepreneurs and business leaders who shared their experiences and insights on entrepreneurship and its role in driving economic growth and development.
Attendees learned from experts like Dr. Peter Emmanuel Eriaku, Director of Animal Resources, on how to protect land and use it effectively for agricultural development, especially animal rearing.
Additionally, the event covered cooperative societies, showcasing opportunities for farmers when they are organized. This included presentations on rearing sheep, goats, and cattle from the Arab world by the Director of AMDEF, Hon. Obilan.
International insights on cooperative societies in the US and worldwide were also shared by experts from Washington.
Obilan stated, “As a respected leader in Teso, your presence would greatly enrich our discussion on entrepreneurship and its role in driving economic growth and development.”
He added that unique perspectives and experiences would be of great value to the attendees, many of whom are aspiring entrepreneurs.
Certificates of excellence were awarded to model farmers in Teso and Busoga.
