In a bid to restore the natural state of the environment in the Southwestern region and River Rwizi, the Abahumuza Group has implemented many initiatives to curb environmental degradation.
One of their major achievements in the last two years has been the construction of underground waste bunkers to control the disposal of plastics and polythene. They have constructed over 50 of these bunkers in different areas around Mbarara City to prevent industrial waste from entering River Rwizi.
The Abahumuza Group has also created awareness through sensitization programs on the dangers of destroying River Rwizi and the environment. They initiated the Save River Rwizi Marathon, which was a success this year on July 30, 2023, at the Golf Course Grounds in Mbarara City. Various companies have partnered with Abahumuza in the struggle to restore the natural state of River Rwizi.
On November 5, 2023, the Abahumuza Development Group, under the leadership of Mr. Seth Murari, took a step to engage institutions as stakeholders in Mbarara City. Ntare School was given the priority.
The two institutions have partnered for environmental conservation and will:
- Plant trees around Mbarara City.
- Construct more underground waste bunkers around the school and Mbarara City.
- Continue with sensitization programs on the dangers of destroying the environment.
The school management of Ntare School appreciated Mr. Seth Murari and Abahumuza for the great step taken in conserving the environment and pledged their continued support and cooperation to ensure that the environment is restored to its natural state.
