The community of Kimondo II cell in Sheema District found itself grappling with fear and shock as lightning took the lives of four siblings from a single family.
Survivor Lilian Nyamwija recounted that the tragic event occurred at approximately 5:50 pm while she and six other children were in the kitchen. The victims, identified as Trevor Mujuni (11), Shanitah Akankunda (9), Comfort Nahabwe (10), and Lonnet Ainembabazi (7), lost their lives on the spot. Two others, Armstrong and Shivan Akampwera, miraculously survived the lightning strike.
Nyamwija, still in shock, described the moment when the thunderous sound accompanied the strike, prompting her to check on the children, only to discover the devastating aftermath.
The children’s grandfather, Benon Bintabara, revealed that he and his wife were away attending an introduction party for a relative when the tragic incident occurred. The news of his grandchildren’s deaths reached him through a phone call from a neighbor, cutting short their participation in the celebration.
As of the latest update, the local police had not issued any official statement regarding the incident. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kitagata Hospital for a postmortem examination.
