Heavy rainfall has resulted in severe flooding on the road leading from Obongi to Adjumani, causing considerable disruptions for travelers. The road’s condition has raised concerns among local authorities and residents, demanding immediate attention and rehabilitation.

RDC Obongi district, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, urged road users to exercise caution when navigating the road due to the extensive flooding on the Esia bridge, which connects Obongi to the Sinyanya ferry in Adjumani. He has initiated communication with the RDC of Adjumani to address the issue and minimize disruptions in the region.

Recently, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Resident District Commissioner of Obongi, personally experienced the dire state of the road. His official vehicle became stranded, compelling him to continue his journey on foot. This incident occurred while he was supervising government-funded programs, highlighting the urgency of the road’s repair.

The affected road plays a crucial role in linking Obongi district to Northern Uganda, connecting with the Sinyanya landing site through River Nile. It serves as a vital transport route for both residents and goods.

In a phone interview with Mr. Hashaka, it was confirmed that the roads under the management of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in Obongi district are in a deplorable state. Notably, the Obongi-Itula-Palorinya-Moyo road and the Obongi-Kulikulinga-Terego road are among the worst affected.

During a quarterly roads committee meeting in Obongi, chaired by the Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Maneno Zumura, UNRA was blamed for the deteriorating road conditions in Obongi and the neighboring districts of Moyo, Yumbe, and Terego. The meeting emphasized the urgency of road repairs in the region.

The Obongi RDC has taken proactive steps to address the issue by writing to the UNRA station manager in Moyo, urging swift renovations of the affected roads. However, as of the time of compiling this report, there has been no response from the UNRA station manager, as attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful.

Mr. Samuel Mpimbasa has called upon the UNRA management to prioritize road rehabilitation, underscoring the importance of efficient transport infrastructure for the community. The flooding and poor road conditions are currently disrupting transportation and access to essential services in the region.
