Alebtong, Uganda – The State Minister of Agriculture, Maj(Rtd) Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, launched the cooperative supermarket/hub on Thursday at Alebtong Town Council in Alebtong District, on behalf of Minister Frank Tumwebaze.
While addressing the farmers, Hon. Minister Fred said that bringing the Hub closer to the farmers is a clear indication that the government cares and listens to its people. He encouraged the farmers in Alebtong to continue supporting the NRM government to attract more development to their region.
Jubilation and excitement filled the air as various group members of the ‘Wii Mon Tek’ Group and other entertainment teams expressed their appreciation to the NRM government through different traditional songs during the commissioning of the facility by Minister Fred.
The facility will provide services such as technology demonstrations, training, and storage, among others.
Members of the Alebtong Kica Arwot Farmers’ Co-operative Society commended the Government of Uganda for investing in the Mid North Farmers’ Market Hubs. The hub, located in Atidi ‘A’ cell, Alebtong Town Council, Alebtong District, boasts over 40 members.
The Chairperson of the cooperative board, Mr. Okwir Isaac, praised the Government for establishing the farmers’ village supermarket but also requested the government to provide them with a tractor and means of transportation.
A cooperative member, Ayoo Christine, explained that the supermarket would serve as a bulking center, facilitate market linkages, and provide agro-quality inputs.
Dk Odongo, the Chairman of LCV Alebtong District, commended the NARO Director General and the European Union, along with implementing partner DINU, for this wonderful initiative. He highlighted how this investment has already made a significant impact on the farmers and Alebtong as a whole. He added that the next step is to focus on improving agricultural skills, value addition, and finding quality markets for Alebtong’s farmers.
Alebtong RDC Gillian Akullu Omara appreciated the Government of Uganda and applauded the European Union for their commendable work. She also urged the government to consider establishing a shea nut butter processing machine in Alebtong.”
