Former Kabale Municipality MP, Hon. Andrew Baryayanga Aja, has pledged to revitalize the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Kabale district, amid growing internal tensions.
Speaking at the Kabale Municipal Stadium during the 39th NRM Liberation Day celebrations, Aja sharply criticized the current NRM leadership in Kabale, accusing them of fostering divisions within the party.
The celebrations also paid tribute to the memory of Joseph Bitwari, James Karambuzi, and David Kagoro Kangire, three FRONASA freedom fighters who were brutally executed by Idi Amin’s regime on February 10, 1973.
Aja emphasized the principle of equality among all NRM members, regardless of their date of entry into the party.
He stressed that their shared objective is to secure a resounding victory for President Museveni in the upcoming elections.
Aja also lauded the NRM government for its efforts in promoting peace and stability across the nation.
The event was initially overshadowed by controversy surrounding the use of the stadium.
The Kabale Football Association and the NRM Youth League had both planned events on the same day.
However, the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, intervened, instructing the town clerk to grant the NRM permission to utilize the stadium.
Addressing his football tournament, Aja revealed that he had received counsel from various leaders, including the Kabale District RDC, to postpone the event to prevent potential clashes with security forces.
He assured the public that a new date for the tournament finals would be announced shortly.
