The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has unveiled historic numbers for its founding Central Committee members, a move aimed at recognizing their seniority and pivotal roles in establishing the organization.
The announcement was made by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and chairman of the PLU, who personally issued the special designations. Each number begins with “PO,” standing for Patriotic Officer, a system reminiscent of the RO (Resistance Officer) numbers assigned during President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s National Resistance Army (NRA) period following the 1986 bush war.
“The chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued the following numbers to PLU members. These numbers reflect the historic role played by each member in the founding of the organization and also their seniority,” explained Andrew Mwenda in a statement on March 20, 2026.
Mwenda further clarified that the initial batch of PO numbers covers only the Central Committee, the top governing body of the PLU, and that additional numbers will be issued later for other members.
