For the third time, youth in Oyam District are not attending a training organized by the Global Health Network aimed at enhancing their professional skills development through mentorship.

The three-day training was set to take place in Loro Town Council at White House Hotel, targeting youth aged 18 to 35 with degrees and diplomas.

The training was designed to foster innovation and enhance their employability in business. The beneficiaries would also be trained on acquiring more knowledge from NGOs, CEOs, and business entrepreneurs. It is supported by World Bank funding.

In Oyam District, the first training was called off on December 24th last year because no one showed commitment for the training. Another training was called on January 14th, 2025, and was again suspended because only 8 out of 120 needed youth showed their commitment.

However, some youth told The Ankole Times in an interview that they were not aware of such training, while others said they realized the training was only for degree and diploma holders, not ordinary youth, and decided not to attend.

Achuru Bob Marley, the Program Coordinator for the Global Health Network in the Lango sub-region, says it is very unfortunate that youth in Oyam are not interested in the training, as it is very important for their life skills.
