The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Local Government, has placed special focus on the Bugisu sub-region as part of its national development agenda.
Steven Masiga, the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, told this publication that His Highness the Umukuka and his cabinet are working closely with the government to ensure that Bugisu receives special consideration in national planning processes.
According to Masiga, the Ministry of Local Government has constituted a committee of three officials at the level of commissioners. In response, His Highness the Umukuka, Jude Mike Mudoma, has also appointed a team of officials led by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu, alongside Hon. Werikhe and Hon. Richard Maserejje, to form a six-member joint committee tasked with overseeing the rollout of the development agenda.
Masiga said the focus will cover the entire Bugisu region, including Bududa, Manafwa, Bulambuli, Mbale City, Mbale District, Sironko, and Namisindwa districts.
He added that, as a cultural institution, Bugisu leadership intends to actively lobby for employment opportunities for the people of the region, noting that progress in this area is already being made.
