President of Ugandan Comedians Association Criticizes Taxpayer Bailout for Roko Construction
Bugingo Hannington, known for his sharp wit and humor as the President of the Ugandan Comedians Association, has raised eyebrows with his recent critique of the government’s financial support for Roko Construction. Bugingo has questioned why a company with contracts worth trillions would need taxpayer money to stay afloat.
Bugingo announced on the social media platform X: “I think when you steal a lot of public money, you start using your bums to think!”
His comment has highlighted the widespread skepticism among Ugandans about the allocation of public funds, especially towards “well-established” companies like Roko Construction.
“If Roko has contracts worth trillions of money,” Bugingo remarked, “why the hell is the Government using our taxes to ‘bail’ them out?”
“This money will be ‘vomitted’ someday!”he added
Ramathan Ggoobi, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury, announced a few days ago that the Ugandan Government invested in ROKO Construction Ltd in 2022 to enable the completion of projects valued at Sh1.4 trillion and preserve the country’s largest construction company along with numerous jobs.
