President Yoweri Museveni will address the nation on the eve of Independence Day, Sunday, October 8, 2023, according to a statement from his press team. The address, scheduled for 8 pm, will focus on the Independence Day theme and other national matters.

This year’s 61st independence anniversary celebrations will be hosted in the northern district of Kitgum in Acholi sub-region. Uganda commemorates its independence every October 9th, and the theme for this year’s event is “Sustaining a united and progressive nation: Taking charge of our future as a free nation.”

East African leaders are expected to attend the celebrations, as briefed by Milly Babalanda, the Minister in charge of the Presidency, during her presentation to Parliament this week.
