President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni cautioned government officials against imposing taxes on innovations in a recent address during the National Science Week at Kololo Independence Grounds. The President emphasized that those who defy this warning will face legal consequences.
He questioned the rationale behind taxing innovations, pointing out that Uganda already grants a 10-year tax holiday to products that are not the result of new ideas. President Museveni expressed bewilderment at the idea of taxing something that is being introduced in Uganda for the first time, even if it’s a well-known concept globally.
During his speech, the President highlighted the importance of the Ministry of Science in addressing such issues and ensuring that unnecessary taxes on innovations are stopped. He asserted that the government’s stance on this matter is clear and intends to support the growth and development of innovative ideas in the country.
President Museveni delivered these remarks alongside the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, on Thursday. The Ministry of Science, as mentioned by the President, plays a crucial role in bringing attention to issues related to innovations and advocating for their fair treatment within the tax system.
