Prime Minister Nabbanja launches Inspectorate of Government’s Ombudsman Complaints Handling Manual

In a recent event celebrating International Ombudsman Day at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja unveiled the Inspectorate of Government’s ombudsman complaints handling manual as part of an initiative to enhance service delivery. The theme of the event was “Raising citizens’ awareness of the Ombuds role for better service delivery.”

The Inspectorate of Government emphasized that the manual’s purpose is to facilitate the effective handling of complaints related to service delivery. This, in turn, is expected to empower citizens to demand accountability from individuals in positions of power.

Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized the three primary functions of the Inspectorate of Government, which include combating corruption through investigations and prosecutions, enforcing the leadership code of conduct, and the ombuds function, which involves receiving and investigating complaints from the public. She highlighted the importance of the ombuds function in promoting fair, efficient governance and the delivery of services to citizens, noting that it is often the least recognized function among Ugandans.

Nabbanja further stated that improving access and the quality of social services is a strategic goal of the NRM Government, as outlined in the current National Development Plan and the party manifesto.

Muruli Mukasa, the Minister of Public Service, encouraged the Inspectorate of Government to take the fight against corruption directly to the people, aiming to instill moral values within children at home.

Inspector General of Government, Beti Kamya Turwomwe, emphasized the importance of quality services for all Ugandans and encouraged citizens to demand these services as their right.
