The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has called on the government to take immediate action to address the problems caused by floods in Kampala and other cities. This request was made during a press conference held at the UPC Headquarters, located at Uganda House in Kampala on Wednesday.

Muzeyi Faizo, the Head of Media and Communications for UPC, emphasized the need for proactive urban planning to prevent incidents where people are affected by flooding in various parts of the country. He stated, “We must not ignore the consequences of natural events as our cities grow. UPC urges the government to plan for urban areas in advance to prevent situations where people are trapped in flooded areas.”

Faizo pointed out that there have been heavy rainfalls in Kampala and other parts of the country recently. One particularly devastating downpour occurred last week, resulting in flooded roads and inaccessible office buildings, despite lasting only one day. Faizo warned, “If such rainfall had continued for an extended period, it could have led to loss of life and property damage, with vehicles being swept away by the powerful floodwaters.”
