The Deputy RDC of Gulu District, Cosmas James Okidi, urged both parents and youths to embrace vocational skills training for job creation. He made these remarks on January 5th, 2024, while officiating the graduation ceremony of 26 students from Divine Hope Skills Training Center, a private institution in Unyama Sub County, Gulu District.
The Center’s Managing Director, Odong Piny Thomas, emphasized that no formal education is required for their training programs. They welcome individuals from 18 years old onwards, aiming to empower all members of society with practical skills. Divine Hope offers marketable courses like tailoring, hairdressing, and mechanics, each with a six-month duration.
“With Uganda’s current focus on vocational skills as a driver of socio-economic transformation, I sincerely appreciate the Center’s efforts in implementing the government’s vision,” remarked DRDC Cosmas in his address to the graduates. “His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has initiated the establishment of regional skilling hubs across the country to equip youths with the skills needed for job creation.” He further encouraged graduates to consider upgrading their skills at government skilling centers, which offer a wider variety of courses.
The graduation ceremony was attended by parents, graduates, local leaders, religious leaders, and cultural leaders, including Rwot Yusuf 3 of the Pageya Clan, who shared words of wisdom on various aspects of life.
