Police in Kakumiro district are investigating the circumstances surrounding the lynching of three people by an angry mob.

The deceased have been identified as Alex Twinomugisha (20), Ronny Namanya (22), and Hatwibu Alias Muzigu (25). All three were residents of Igayaza town council.

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza stated that preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and two others, who are still at large, were lynched by an angry mob on suspicion of attempting to steal a coffee milling machine.

The five were traveling on two motorcycles when they allegedly diverted from their initial plan to steal a coffee milling machine and instead targeted a bar in Kibijo village.

The bar owner raised the alarm, prompting locals to launch a search. Three of the five suspects were apprehended and beaten to death by the mob.

The bodies were taken to Kakumiro H/C IV for postmortem. Hakiza strongly condemned the act of mob justice, emphasizing that it destroys evidence and hinders the course of justice.
