Gulu, Uganda — Authorities in Gulu City are investigating the tragic killing of a laboratory technician attached to Gulu University, who was attacked while returning home on foot in what police suspect to be a robbery gone wrong.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased was ambushed in the evening along a footpath on the outskirts of Gulu City shortly after leaving work. Witnesses reported that the attacker or attackers struck suddenly before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim critically injured.
Residents in the area say they later discovered the body and immediately raised alarm, prompting a swift response from police. The scene was cordoned off as forensic teams collected evidence, including signs suggesting a possible struggle.
Police have not yet established the exact motive behind the attack, but robbery remains the leading line of inquiry due to the location and circumstances of the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
The killing has sparked concern among residents and members of the university community, who have repeatedly raised alarm over insecurity along poorly lit routes frequently used by staff and students, especially during evening hours.
They are now calling for improved lighting, increased patrols, and enhanced security measures around vulnerable paths.
The body of the deceased has been taken for postmortem examination as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the fatal attack.
