Bonny Ferdinand Okello Alele, a director at Uganda Christian Institute (UCI) Lira and the Assistant Resident City Commissioner (ARCC) of Lira City, has dismissed rumors that the institution was closed due to an Ebola case. He confirmed that a student suspected of having Ebola tested negative.

“Uganda Christian Institute Lira wishes to assure the public that there is no case of Ebola at our institution,” Alele said.

This statement follows social media reports alleging that a student at UCI Lira was a suspected Ebola patient. Alele labeled these reports as entirely false and misleading.

The confusion arose after an audio recording of an address by Lira RCC, Lawrence Emmy Egole, was leaked and widely shared.

This recording, made by a medical personnel present, was taken out of context, causing unnecessary fear and speculation.

While it is true that a student underwent medical evaluation as a precautionary measure, the test results confirmed he was negative for Ebola.

“We strongly condemn the spread of misinformation that has caused panic among parents, students, and the general public,” Alele stated. “Uganda Christian Institute remains committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We continue to follow strict health guidelines to ensure a safe learning environment.”

Alele urged the public to disregard false reports and rely on official communication channels for accurate information, calling for calm and unity in promoting truth and preventing unnecessary fear.

He reiterated that Uganda Christian Institute is safe, and normal learning continues without disruption.

Ibrahim Makamba, Deputy RCC of Lira City West Division, urged residents to remain vigilant, as Ebola Sudan has been reported in the country recently.
