Hon. Michael Mawanda, the Member of Parliament for Igara East, has praised the Uganda Police for arresting a TikTok user accused of insulting President Yoweri Museveni and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The individual in question, identified as Mbabazi, was apprehended by police in Bushenyi for posting disparaging videos targeting both General Muhoozi and President Museveni.
According to Hon. Mawanda, Mbabazi, who operates under the username Mbabazi Pathy, has been using her platform to voice her discontent with the government and military leadership. The MP confirmed that she will soon be presented in court.
“I thank the Uganda Police for their diligent work in apprehending this lady who has been insulting our chairman, Gen. Muhoozi, and H.E. President Museveni. She will be taken to court soon,” said Hon. Mawanda. “I also want to acknowledge our vigilant PLU supporters in Bushenyi, led by Rwakataka, who were disturbed by these insults.”
The arrest of Mbabazi adds her to a growing list of individuals who have been detained for allegedly disrespecting the first family, including President Museveni, General Muhoozi, and other family members.
In recent months, several young Ugandans have been arrested for similar offenses, particularly for content shared on TikTok.
However, Mawanda’s support for the arrest has sparked controversy on social media, with critics accusing him of endorsing actions that suppress youth expression and dissent against the government.
Despite the backlash, Mawanda stands by his position, commending the authorities for taking swift action in response to the insults.
