Hon. Sophie Safina Kenyangi, National Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, has urged Muslims to embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, which aims to alleviate poverty. She made this call during the closing ceremony of the 3rd Women’s Seminar, themed “Educate a Woman, Educate the Nation,” held at the Kabale Muslim District Headquarters in Kirigime Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The seminar, which began on August 30th and concluded on September 1st, aimed to empower women in religious, social, and economic spheres. Kenyangi emphasized that while the government has established programs like the PDM to address poverty, there were concerns within the Muslim community about the interest aspect, which contradicts Islamic teachings. She clarified that the President assured her that the percentage involved was for service, not interest.
Kenyangi also encouraged the Kabale Muslim District Council to embrace data processing for easier job lobbying and urged the public to be vigilant about Monkeypox while promoting unity regardless of religion, status, or tribe.
Enid Origumisiriza, a Kabale District parliamentary hopeful, emphasized responsible parenting and identifying talents among children.
Hajji Isa Tindyebwa, Chairperson of the Kabale Muslim District Council, stressed the importance of improving household income at the family level.
Kansiime Halimah, Secretary for Women and Children Affairs, highlighted the need for refresher courses and greater involvement in socio-economic transformation.
