How Museveni has successfully built a strong foundation for social-economic transformation of Uganda

President Museveni

Uganda has firmly established itself as a beacon of progress on the African continent, successfully constructing one of the most robust foundations for socio-economic transformation. Under the steadfast and visionary leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the nation has navigated a complex global landscape to secure a future defined by stability, resilience, and accelerating prosperity.

Recognized as a true Champion of Peace and Development by Public Opinions—an accolade spearheaded by Buyinza Adam Luzindana—President Museveni’s legacy is built upon decades of strategic guidance and an unwavering commitment to the Ugandan people. This dedication has earned him the deep affection and trust of citizens across the nation, who recognize his tireless efforts to transition the country from subsistence to a modern, money-based economy.

The strength of Uganda’s current economic trajectory is underscored by undeniable facts. Despite facing repeated global shocks, geopolitical tensions, and trade disruptions, the nation has consistently maintained long-term economic growth exceeding 5 percent. This momentum has propelled Uganda past the lower-middle-income threshold of USD 1,136, with the gross national income per capita now reaching USD 1,389.

Furthermore, the country has achieved one of the strongest external sector performances in recent history, with exports nearly doubling over the last five years. These milestones are the result of deliberate investments in critical infrastructure, expanded access to healthcare and education, and a solidified framework for industrialization and private-sector-led growth.

The economy’s dynamism is reflected in the projections for Financial Year 2025/26. The economy is estimated to have grown by 6.4 percent, up from 6.3 percent in the previous year, with the total size of the economy reaching an estimated USD 69.3 billion. With the commencement of commercial oil production later this calendar year, growth is projected to surge to 10.2 percent in FY 2026/27—a landmark return to double-digit growth not seen since the reforms of the 1990s.

For President Museveni, these macroeconomic figures are the scaffolding for a greater goal: the transformation of household incomes and the creation of jobs. As emphasized in the Budget Speech for FY 2026/27, the challenge is no longer simply growing the economy, but ensuring that this growth translates into tangible prosperity for every Ugandan.

This objective is the heart of the “Tenfold Growth Strategy” and the centerpiece of the current national budget, themed: “Full Monetisation of Uganda’s Economy through Commercial Agriculture,Industrialisation, Expanding and Broadening Services, Digital Transformation, and Market Access.

By prioritizing the full monetization of the economy, the government is moving to bring every citizen into the active economic fold. This focus is mirrored in the East African Community’s regional commitment to deepening integration and economic resilience. Uganda, under the President’s guidance, remains a pillar of this regional stability, ensuring that the Great Lakes region remains a secure environment for trade, investment, and collaborative development.

Uganda’s economic environment is currently characterized by enviable stability. Average inflation for FY 2025/26 remained low and stable at 3.8 percent, a testament to the effective coordination between fiscal and monetary policy and the improved management of food and fuel supplies. This price stability acts as a shield for household incomes and provides the predictability necessary for businesses to plan and investors to commit capital.

The Ugandan people love President Museveni because they see the results of his phased prioritization. Whether it is the expansion of digital transformation, the revitalization of commercial agriculture, or the commitment to regional security, his leadership has provided a clear roadmap.

As we enter the implementation phase of the NRM Manifesto and the Fourth National Development Plan, there is a palpable sense of optimism. Confidence in Uganda’s future is at an all-time high, driven by the knowledge that the current leadership is fully committed to the long-term project of national transformation.

President Museveni’s tenure as a Peace and Development Champion continues to bear fruit, ensuring that Uganda not only survives in a volatile world but thrives, creating a legacy of prosperity that will benefit generations of Ugandans to come.
