How Residents Transformed Kyanja into Kampala’s Most Sought-After Middle-Class Neighbourhood

Kyanja has become one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods for the middle class in Kampala. This didn’t just happen by chance—residents came together and formed an organised, proactive community that many now admire.

Security is strong, with active support groups such as Rotary and Rotaract clubs. The neighbourhood is clean, and green cover is steadily increasing thanks to Rotary efforts. We boast top-notch healthcare services, some of the best schools in Uganda, and major shopping malls. Nearly everything you need is available within Kyanja—no need to travel to the central business district. These factors have contributed to a rise in rental prices, making Kyanja a prime choice for the middle class.

When the political season began, some residents encouraged me to contest for MP. I told them: I don’t need to be an MP to serve my community. Your support is all I need to make a difference. Likewise, you don’t need to be a politician to support Kyanja. If I became an MP, you might not see me as often. What my team and I need is your full commitment to help us deliver 100% service to our community.

Let’s work together to maintain Kyanja’s top-tier reputation by doing the following:

  1. Attend Security Meetings – Your presence ensures community safety and collaboration.

  2. Support KNW Activities – Provide financial support for Kyanja Neighbourhood Watch (KNW) initiatives to drive real change.

  3. Report Security Issues Promptly – Timely reporting allows for quick response and resolution.

  4. Join KNW – Become a registered KNW member by paying a one-time membership fee and receiving your KNW ID.

  5. Join Street Committees – Participate in street-level initiatives (similar to Mayumba Kumi) to help achieve goals like installing street lights and CCTV cameras.

  6. Show Neighborly Love – Support and care for your neighbours; be present when they need you.

Let us unite and love one another to continue transforming Kyanja.

With unity and collective effort, Kyanja can be transformed even further—within just a year. Landlords, please encourage tenant participation in community activities and support our local leaders. We’re already working hand in hand with elected officials and KCCA to improve our roads and infrastructure.

Together, we can make Kyanja shine.

UNITY IS POWER! Let’s make a difference together.
