The 91st Guild President of Makerere University, Churchill James Ssentamu, has refuted an apology that has circulated on the social media platform, Facebook. It is important to note that Churchill is currently caught in a dilemma with both his family and supporters of the National Unity Platform.

This situation arose from a photograph he took with President Museveni during an official visit to Makerere University. Many supporters of NUP felt let down by Churchill’s actions, leading to a wave of online criticism and insults. His father even appeared in a video on social media expressing that his son’s actions were disgraceful.

Nyanzi urged Churchill to either apologize or consider resigning. Shortly after, a post claiming to be from Churchill James Ssentamu began circulating on Facebook, stating that he had apologized for upsetting their supporters.

“To the people of Uganda, I want to extend my sincerest apologies for my actions that may have caused harm or offense. I understand the gravity of the situation and the importance of unity during challenging times. My intention was never to betray the trust or values of our great nation. I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me and work towards healing and unity.

To my Dad, CHAIRMAN NYANZI. Dad, I’m deeply sorry for my actions, which I realize now may have caused you pain and concern. I know we didn’t see eye-to-eye on this, and I regret any hurt or embarrassment I may have brought to our family. Please forgive me, and know that I love and respect you, even if we don’t agree on everything.”

However, Churchill clarified on his X platform that he does not use Facebook, branding the post as fraudulent and asking people to ignore it. He assured that he would soon address the nation regarding his role as the Guild President of Makerere University.

“I do not actively use Facebook and the post making rounds on the app isn’t from me!
KINDLY disregard any prevailing propaganda most especially on my role as Guild president
I’ll address the general public at the right time using my official social media pages❗️
Stay woke!!!”

Nevertheless, this response has further angered many NUP supporters, who have increased their insults directed at him. On the other hand, Churchill is also receiving significant support, with many arguing that his responsibilities as the Guild President of Makerere University left him with little choice.
