Supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Iganga have rallied behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s bid to seek the presidency in the 2031 general elections.
The mobilisation exercise in Iganga was presided over by Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and Ms. Jacquina Muyonga, as PLU continues its nationwide mobilisation and endorsement activities for Gen. Kainerugaba.
The Iganga activity forms part of a broader PLU-led drive to collect endorsements and mobilise political support for Gen. Kainerugaba ahead of the 2031 presidential election. PLU has been conducting similar activities in different parts of the country.
Recent endorsement activities have also been reported in areas including Ankole, Buganda, Buliisa and Kakumiro, as the movement expands its grassroots mobilisation structures.
During the Iganga mobilisation, organisers recognised Mr. Balondemu Dennis, Mr. Ndaye Yakubu and Haj. Ojasi Swaibu for their contribution to the exercise and efforts to strengthen PLU structures in Busoga.
The organisers said the response from residents and supporters in Iganga demonstrated what they described as growing grassroots engagement with Gen. Kainerugaba’s political agenda.
Gen. Kainerugaba, who currently serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, publicly announced in August that he intends to seek the presidency in 2031. Reuters reported that the General announced his intention to run in a post on X.
PLU subsequently formally announced and launched activities around his 2031 presidential bid, including a nationwide endorsement and signature-collection drive.
For PLU supporters in Iganga, the mobilisation provides an avenue to publicly express their support while strengthening the movement’s presence across the Busoga region.
The organisers thanked the people of Busoga, particularly residents of Iganga, for participating in the mobilisation exercise and supporting the ongoing endorsement activities.
