Inspection of Cultural Sites Begins as Bugisu Prepares for 2026 Circumcision Launch

MBALE, Uganda — The spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution has shared details with The Ankole Times about preparations for the upcoming Imbalu ceremony.

Steven Masiga said that on Sunday, March 1, 2026, the Head of Security for Traditional and Cultural Leaders, Col. Hebert Edward Tahunga, paid a courtesy visit to His Highness the Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, at the Bugisu Cultural Offices.

Afterwards, the Royal Guards Commander was taken on a guided tour of cultural sites under the Bugisu Cultural Institution. Notable among the sites visited was the Mutoto Cultural Grounds, the main venue for the opening of the circumcision ceremony held every even year.

Masiga noted that the Imbalu ceremony is about 150 days away and emphasized the importance of early preparations, especially since many notable political and cultural figures are expected to attend the launch of the 2026 ceremony.

Mutoto Cultural Site is located 1.4 kilometers off Tororo Road.

Col. Hebert Edward Tahunga expressed his appreciation to His Highness the Umukuka, Jude Mike Mudoma, for being a firm supporter and defender of Bamasaaba cultural practices. He also commended the UPDF guards for their excellent work in protecting His Highness and the vital cultural sites.

The 2026 Imbalu launch is scheduled for August 2026.
