UPDF Opens Recruitment for Advanced Qualifications

The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has announced a new phase of recruitment following the recent recruitment of candidates with O-Level qualifications. This new recruitment drive is open to individuals aged 18 to 28 years old and targets candidates with advanced qualifications.

Categories for Recruitment

The UPDF is seeking applicants in the following categories:




UACE (S.6) Science-Based Combinations: Candidates must have at least one principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Geography, along with subsidiary passes. The specific combinations include:




  • PEM (Physics, Economics, Mathematics)
  • PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
  • PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • BCM (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics)
  • MEG (Mathematics, Economics, Geography)

Degrees or Diplomas in the Following Fields:




  • Civil Engineering
  • Telecommunications Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Cyber Security
  • Computer Forensics
  • Computer Science
  • Aerospace Engineering

Certificate Holders in Specific Trades:

  • Masons
  • Electricians
  • Painters
  • Specialized Fabricators
  • Carpenters
  • Heavy Engineering Equipment Operators
  • Heavy Engineering Equipment Mechanics

Application Process

Interested candidates must apply through the UPDF website: UPDF Careers. The application window is open from June 19th to July 3rd.

  • Application Review: From July 4th to July 10th, the applications will be reviewed and scrutinized.
  • Results Announcement: Successful applicants will be listed on the UPDF website from July 11th to July 14th.
  • Screening: Candidates whose names appear on the website will report to the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo for screening on July 15th. The screening will include medical and physical fitness tests and will commence on July 15th, 2024.

Requirements for Screening

Successful applicants must bring the following documents to the screening:




  • National Identity Card
  • Letters from LCI and LCII Chairpersons, GISO, and DISO

Note: No money is required at any stage of this recruitment process. Recruitment into the UPDF is free of charge.
