Security forces operating in the Karamoja region, including the army, police, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, and the Uganda Prisons, have been encouraged to maintain their commitment to preserving peace and furthering the historical mission set forth by their predecessors.

Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, Deputy Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 3rd Division, emphasized the importance of upholding the strategic relationship with the local population to facilitate the transformation of the region. He reiterated the UPDF’s dedication to ensuring security and fostering socio-economic development in the area.

These sentiments were echoed during the joint security forces Tareh Sita anniversary celebrations held on February 6, 2024. The event saw various security agencies, including the UPDF, Uganda Police, ASTUs, and Uganda Prisons, actively engage with the community through activities such as cleaning Moroto and conducting medical camps.

Moroto Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Justine Tuko Sam, commended the UPDF for its efforts in maintaining security and contributing to regional peacekeeping missions. He expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for his leadership and acknowledged the positive impact of the joint security forces‘ collaboration with local leaders on the region’s development.

Additionally, senior leaders appealed to parents to prioritize education for their children and pledged support for initiatives aimed at improving education levels in Karamoja.

As part of the Tareh Sita anniversary celebrations, civil-military cooperation activities were conducted to give back to the communities. These included medical camps, cleanliness drives, and sports events aimed at promoting community engagement and well-being.

The celebrations culminated in national festivities held in Bugweri district, where President Museveni praised Ugandans for embracing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ideas and emphasized the importance of fighting corruption for continued economic growth and development.
