Steven Ariong, Nabilatuk – The Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Mr. Peter Lokeris Aimat, has launched a door-to-door campaign encouraging Karimojong elders and youth to embrace government programs aimed at fostering development in the region.

During a meeting with community members in Lorengedwat Sub County, Mr. Lokeris, a native of the area, emphasized the importance of abandoning criminal activities in light of the government’s plans to upgrade Moroto to a city by 2025. He urged the community to focus on development opportunities.

The meeting coincided with discussions about the planned opening of the Katikekile Lokapel road in Nabilatuk district. While community members expressed their support for the road project, they also requested government assistance, noting that some residents have crops in areas where the road is set to pass.

“The government has outlined numerous projects for Karamoja, and it is crucial that we all embrace these initiatives,” Mr. Lokeris stated.

Mr. Paul Lokol, the district chairperson of Nabilatuk, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the community’s desire for development while stressing the need for continuous community engagement.

Youth representative Peter Lomokol expressed optimism about the road’s establishment, stating it would create business opportunities for young people in Nabilatuk, Amudat, and Moroto.
