Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Owiny-Dollo, Karugire, among 63 Lawyers Honored for National Impact

Public Opinions will induct 63 of the most influential and admired lawyers in Uganda into the prestigious Uganda Development Champions Journal as the country celebrates 63 years of independence.

Those nominated include Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Dr. Allan Shonubi, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Prof. Fredrick Katende, Edwin Karugire, among others.

These individuals will also be honored with the Responsible Investment Global Certification Award, in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to the sustainable peace and development of Uganda through their legal services, commitment to the 30 Principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and alignment with Uganda Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Public Opinions is a leading field-based organization working towards the realization of Uganda Vision 2040 and the SDGs. It focuses on recognizing key contributors to national development, personal and corporate profiling, public awareness, information dissemination, and investment advisory.

Public Opinions also previously recognized President Yoweri Museveni as a Uganda Peace and Development Champion and presented him with the Responsible Investment Global Certification Award at a ceremony he presided over.

According to the organization, many young Ugandans have joined the legal profession—and many more aspire to—because they have been inspired by great lawyers.

The selection of the 63 lawyers followed a nationwide online survey conducted via WhatsApp-based polling to identify the most admired and inspiring legal professionals.

The lawyers selected for induction into the Uganda Development Champions Journal are noted for possessing essential qualities such as analytical and communication skills, problem-solving ability, strong judgment, attention to detail, integrity, perseverance, empathy, and time management. These are the attributes that define success in the legal profession.

The Uganda Development Champions Journal will be widely distributed from Independence Day onward, reaching government offices, diplomatic missions in Uganda and abroad, and leading corporate CEOs, among others.

This induction is a significant initiative recognizing lawyers who have shown exceptional dedication to upholding the rule of law and promoting human rights in Uganda. These professionals are not only exceptional legal minds but also role models to aspiring young Ugandans. Their commitment to advancing justice, human rights, and development is a cornerstone of national progress.

By upholding the 30 Principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the lawyers being recognized have worked tirelessly to ensure that justice and dignity are accessible to all Ugandans.

The inductees come from diverse backgrounds and legal specializations but are united by their shared dedication to promoting human rights and sustainable development. Recognizing their work is both a celebration of their achievements and a call to others to follow their example.
