Kisoro Leaders Urged to Complete Projects Left Behind by Late Minister Sarah Mateke

Dr. Leo Mfitimana, an aspirant for the Kisoro Municipality parliamentary seat in the upcoming general elections, has called on district leaders to unite and complete the unfinished development projects initiated by the late Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke.

Hon. Mateke, who also served as the Woman Member of Parliament for Kisoro District, passed away from a heart attack on 7 September 2024 at Nsambya Hospital, aged 50. Her sudden death sent shockwaves through Kisoro and across the country.

As Kisoro marks the anniversary of her passing, Dr. Mfitimana emphasized the importance of carrying forward her vision for the district.

He urged leaders to prioritize the completion of key initiatives championed by the late minister, including the upgrading of Kisoro Aerodrome into an international airport and the transformation of Shaaza Playground into the Sarah Mateke Memorial Stadium.

Dr. Mfitimana praised the late minister for her strong lobbying skills, her dedication to women’s empowerment, and her progressive development agenda, which he said significantly transformed Kisoro District.

Meanwhile, Ramathan Ndikuyeze, the LC3 Chairperson for Central Division in Kisoro Municipality, raised concerns over what he described as a breakdown in coordination and leadership following Mateke’s death
