The Kisoro National Unity Platform (NUP) Chairperson, Laban Sibomana, has criticized the press statement regarding the alleged shooting of party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
On September 3, 2024, the Uganda Police Force released a statement about Kyagulanyi’s shooting, claiming that he sustained injuries while police were on site and that he stumbled while entering his vehicle, causing the injury.
In a media address, Sibomana condemned the press statement as malevolent, accusing it of being part of an intentional mission to assassinate Kyagulanyi. He argued that Kyagulanyi has become a threat to the ruling government due to his growing support across the country. Sibomana urged residents to continue their support and maintain courage despite fear and threats.
He called on the people of Kisoro and Uganda to unite and cooperate as a more effective way for the National Unity Platform to secure victory in the 2026 presidential elections. Sibomana also remarked that attempts on Kyagulanyi’s life could be seen as blessings in disguise, as ultimate power rests with God.
