KOLE DISTRICT — Kole North Member of Parliament, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, has called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of individuals implicated in corruption under the government’s cattle restocking compensation programme, saying those responsible must be held accountable.

Speaking at a burial ceremony in Alito Sub-county on Wednesday, Dr. Acuti urged local leaders, security agencies and the relevant government authorities to work together to identify and prosecute those accused of defrauding beneficiaries of the compensation scheme.

He said corruption within the programme threatens to undermine efforts to restore the livelihoods of families that lost livestock and warned that public confidence in government interventions would continue to decline unless decisive action is taken.

“We cannot allow a few selfish individuals to derail a programme meant to restore livelihoods. Those found guilty of exploiting beneficiaries must face the full weight of the law to restore confidence in our systems,” Dr. Acuti said.

The legislator also announced that 4,375 households across Kole District will benefit from an upcoming distribution of hand hoes aimed at promoting commercial agriculture and improving household incomes.

According to Dr. Acuti, the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to support agricultural production and encourage communities to diversify their sources of livelihood beyond livestock farming.

He assured residents that the distribution would be conducted fairly, with priority given to vulnerable households and families actively engaged in farming.

Dr. Acuti reaffirmed his commitment to promoting agriculture as a key strategy for poverty eradication in Kole North and urged residents to make productive use of the farming tools once they are distributed.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over alleged irregularities in the cattle compensation programme, with residents calling for greater transparency and accountability to ensure that compensation reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Local leaders welcomed the MP’s call for stronger anti-corruption measures and pledged to support efforts aimed at safeguarding public resources and ensuring justice for affected communities.
