Lira, Uganda – The Lango Journalists Association (LUJA) is set to elect new leaders on Wednesday, with several journalists announcing their candidacy for various positions.
In a significant development, Charity Akullo, a dedicated and influential journalist from the Daily Monitor Publications Limited, has officially declared her candidacy for the position of General Secretary of LUJA. Speaking to The Ankole Times on Monday, Akullo outlined her vision for the Association, emphasizing the importance of unity, capacity building, and ethical journalism within the Lango region. “Our profession plays a critical role in shaping public opinion and promoting transparency,” she stated.
“As General Secretary, I aim to create an environment where journalists can thrive and contribute positively to society.” Akullo is known for her commitment to journalistic integrity and her advocacy for media freedom.
Meanwhile, Odongo Moris Micheal, a young journalist associated with The Nile Times online media tabloid, has also announced his interest in contesting for the position of Chairperson of the disciplinary committee within LUJA.
Additionally, Augustine Okello Ruks, Joseph Ekol Ekol, and Olang Bismark are reportedly vying for the position of Chairperson of the Lango United Journalists Association (LUJA).
Okidi Patrick, also known as Ocamoyitdyel and affiliated with ‘The Ankole Times‘ online newspaper, has shown interest in becoming the LUJA legal advisor.
Other journalists aspiring for various positions within the LUJA organization include Ejang Sarah of Amolatar Hot FM, Omara Felix of Voice Of the Gospel, and Amony Immaculate of URN.
The election, scheduled by the interim leadership, is set to take place on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. The outcome of these elections is anticipated to shape the future direction and activities of the Lango Journalists Association.
