Tayebwa Commends Late Dr. Aliker’s Legacy

Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker, expressed admiration for the late Dr. Martin Aliker, whom he described as both a mentor and a friend. Speaking at Dr. Aliker’s funeral service, Tayebwa praised the late Dr. Aliker for his inspirational guidance and unwavering commitment to public service.

Tayebwa recalled Dr. Aliker’s support and encouragement, noting that the late Dr. Aliker celebrated his achievements and even visited his village to express his friendship. He emphasized the importance of such bonds of camaraderie in our daily lives, highlighting the value of friendship in fostering mutual support and encouragement.

During the service held at All Saints Cathedral Kampala on April 19, 2024, Tayebwa revealed that in 2006, they had considered Dr. Aliker for the position of Vice Chancellor at Makerere University. However, Dr. Aliker declined the offer due to his commitment as Vice Chancellor at Gulu University.

Leading the service, Reverend Dr. Hannington Mutebi praised Dr. Aliker as a man of integrity, emphasizing his incorruptible nature. He noted Dr. Aliker’s leadership roles on various boards without any hint of corruption, urging leaders and public servants to emulate his example by serving with integrity and purpose.

Mrs. Camille Moore, Dr. Aliker’s widow, echoed the call for a corruption-free society, urging mourners to seek guidance from God in overcoming challenges. She fondly reminisced about her life with Dr. Aliker, describing him as both complex and romantically simple.

Dr. Martin Aliker, a renowned dental surgeon, businessman, community leader, and former government minister, passed away at the age of 95. His multifaceted contributions to society and his lifelong commitment to integrity and public service left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and guide others.
