Lira Central Police Arrest 31 in Night Operation, Seize Weapons and Drugs

Lira, Uganda – Police from Lira City Central Police Station successfully carried out an intelligence-led operation on the night of September 12th, targeting crime hotspots in Kitgum Stage, Lira Taxi Park, Camp Swahili, Ipito Aweno (Pipe), and the vicinity of Lira Main Market.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 31 suspects found in possession of housebreaking tools, dangerous weapons used in robberies, and illegal substances including opium and aviation fuel.

Speaking to the press, Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, confirmed that all suspects have been detained at the station. “Screening is underway, and those found culpable will be investigated and charged accordingly,” he said.

Okema emphasized that this operation is part of ongoing mop-up efforts aimed at curbing crime within Lira City and across the North Kyoga Region. “We are committed to conducting similar operations to ensure a crime-free society,” he added.

The police urge the public to continue cooperating by reporting suspicious activities to aid law enforcement efforts.
