Lira, Uganda – The Woman MP of Lira District, Hon. Auma Linda Agness, has urged fellow politicians in the Lango sub-region to desist from politics of hatred. MP Auma cautioned politicians against blackmail, being dark-hearted, and using people’s children as pawns in political battles. She also advised the youth to be cautious, citing the example of a youth leader named Bakongo Boniface, who nearly took his own life due to the court costs following the electoral petition judgment that was levied against him.
She blamed a certain politician in Lira District for misleading Boniface to lead a political battle against her in court after she was declared the winner of the Lira District Woman MP seat in the 2021 general election.
“I learned that Bakongo was very sick, and no one helped him. I am saying this not because of politics,” said MP Linda Auma.
She further warned the youth against fighting other people’s battles that some politicians often impose on them.
Auma was addressing the media at Grand Pacific Hotel on Friday when she announced that she would forgive Bakongo Boniface and relieve him of the court costs. While testifying before the media on camera, Boniface Bakongo, the Chairperson of the Youth Council in Aromo Sub-County, Lira District, confessed that he had been supporting Florence Ongina Adupa, who is contesting in Lira District under the UPC party ticket. He explained that she had tricked him into signing an election petition against Auma Linda in 2021.
However, things did not go well for him as the court ruling turned against him, with the case being dismissed and a cost of 98 million shillings ordered to be paid to Hon. Auma Linda Agness by the petitioner, Boniface Bakongo.
Boniface said that he sought advice from Jacob Ocen and Sarah, the PA of MP Auma Agness, who urged him to ask for forgiveness from the MP. It wasn’t until January 1, 2025, that Hon. Auma Linda forgave him.
Jacob Ocen, the NRM spokesperson for Lira District, congratulated Hon. Auma Linda for demonstrating a kind heart and assured him that “Team Linda” had no issue with Boniface Bakongo. He added that they had unconditionally forgiven him.
When contacted on her known phone number to provide her side of the story, Florence Ongina Adupa did not respond to repeated phone calls to clarify the matter.
