A prominent Lira NRM cadre, Mr. Leo Aguda, has threatened to write to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate the whereabouts of a 1 billion shilling road fund. Leo told The Ankole Times newspaper on Thursday evening that he has broken his silence in the fight against corruption in Lira City and is officially sounding the alarm.
Leo Aguda has joined other comrades in demanding accountability for the one (1) billion shillings given to Lira City Council under the road fund. A resident of Iwal Ward, Lira City, Aguda expressed disappointment with some of the Lira City leadership (name withheld), adding that roads connecting business centers like Akia Rock Quarry Center and Apila Rock Quarry Center are in alarmingly poor condition.
He noted that the recent work on Obutuwelo Road and Okori-Olero Road is being funded by local revenue, according to a reliable source.
Following the creation of new independent units by H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda to fight corruption, Leo Aguda has promised to support the unit with valuable information on suspected corruption.
He intends to formally complain to Brig. Isoke, urging him to investigate the implicated individuals thoroughly regarding the one billion shilling road fund. Aguda is also demanding the budget and names of the roads worked on using the 1 billion road fund from relevant officials in Lira City.
Aguda commended President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for establishing the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to combat corruption in the country.
When contacted for comment on Thursday evening, James Omara Elem, the Secretary for Finance of Lira City Council, stated that Aguda should proceed with complaining to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit if he is dissatisfied with the accountability of the one billion shillings.
