Lukwago Back in Court Today After Missing Previous Session Due to Illness

The former Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago, is expected to return to the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court today after missing the previous hearing due to illness.

Lukwago, who is also the Executive Chairman of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), failed to appear in court during the last session after the Uganda Prisons Service informed the court that he had been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.

According to prison authorities, his medical condition made it impossible for him to attend the proceedings, prompting the court to adjourn the case.

His expected return has generated renewed public interest, with supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom and other opposition groups expected to closely follow the court proceedings.

Lukwago is among several opposition figures facing charges in a case that has drawn national attention. His legal team has previously raised concerns about his health and the conditions of his detention, while the prosecution has maintained that the case should proceed in accordance with the law.

During today’s session, the court is expected to hear submissions from both the prosecution and the defence before determining the next course of action, including whether to proceed with the hearing or grant another adjournment.

Security is expected to be heightened around the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court as the proceedings get underway.
