In a bid to curb rising crime, the Kampala Metropolitan Police, in coordination with other security agencies, conducted a series of intelligence-led operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on 23rd March 2026.
The operations followed numerous public complaints about escalating criminal activities in the city and surrounding areas.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the operations targeted criminal gangs involved in robberies, phone snatching, attacks on pedestrians, narcotic abuse, and other social disorders.
Key arrests by location include:
- Kira Division: Operations in Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone led to the arrest of 34 suspects.
- Entebbe Division (Wakiso District): Police conducted raids in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri, resulting in 46 arrests.
- Kajjansi Town Council (Wakiso District): Operations in KKB Zone, Ssanyi Village, Dewey Village, and Kawali Village yielded 17 arrests.
- Jinja Road Division: Operations in Kilombe led to 7 arrests.
- Kakiri Division: Operations in Namayumba resulted in 7 arrests.
During the operations, police recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, and confiscated items linked to theft and other criminal activities.
All 111 suspects are currently in police custody pending court proceedings. Authorities emphasized that the crackdown aims to maintain public safety, address social disorder, and dismantle organized criminal networks operating within the metropolitan area.
