Makerere University Graduation Week: Over 8,000 Students to Be Awarded Degrees

KAMPALA, Uganda — Makerere University will graduate 8,432 students during its 76th graduation ceremony from February 24–27, marking a 30% increase in output, according to Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

The graduands will receive 185 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 2,034 Master’s degrees, 6,043 Bachelor’s degrees, 137 postgraduate diplomas, and 33 undergraduate diplomas.

This year’s total represents a slight decrease compared to last year’s overall figures when 13,658 graduands were awarded degrees and diplomas, though the university reports a significant growth in certain programs.

The ceremonies will be conducted in phases according to colleges. On February 24, graduands from the Colleges of Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, and related disciplines will be awarded.

The February 25 session will see students from the Colleges of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences graduate.

Graduands from the Colleges of Engineering, Computing, and Agriculture will be recognized on February 26, while the ceremony will conclude on February 27 with students from the College of Business and Management Sciences and the School of Law.
