Dokolo, Uganda – The territorial police in Dokolo District are investigating a suspected murder by stabbing that occurred on the night of November 17, 2024, at around 11:00 PM. An official report was made on November 18, 2024, at around 8:00 AM by Ojara Juventino, a 56-year-old resident of Aputi village, Bardyang parish, Adok Sub-County in Dokolo District.
According to police PRO North Kyoga Region SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, it is alleged that Obonyo Calvin, aged 29 (now deceased), was involved in a love affair with Ejang Caroline, a 56-year-old woman who is the mother of Omara Calvin, a 15-year-old suspect.
Omara, reportedly unhappy with the relationship, had previously fought with Obonyo on November 11, 2024. On the night of November 17, 2024, around 10:00 PM, another altercation occurred between the two men in a drinking place in Aputi village. The argument escalated into a physical fight.
SP Okema added that Omara allegedly stabbed Obonyo with a sharp object in the chest and then fled the scene. Obonyo, severely injured, collapsed and later died while his colleagues were attempting to rush him to the hospital.
The incident was reported to Adok police post, and the OC informed the CPS Dokolo. The scene of the crime was secured until morning when a team of homicide investigators and SOCO arrived. The deceased’s body was recovered and transported to Dokolo HC IV for a postmortem examination.
Okema stated that the suspect, Omara Calvin, was arrested by the community and is currently in custody. Ejang Caroline, the mother of the suspect, has also been detained for her safety due to threats from the deceased’s relatives, who have reportedly damaged her property.
“We condemn the act of violence that has occurred within the community. Fortunately, the perpetrator is in custody, and we are investigating the individuals who engaged in destructive behavior. We urge both parties to remain calm as we conduct a thorough investigation,” stated SP Okema.
