Renowned Mbarara businessman Godfrey Kururagire, aged 59, who tragically passed away due to hypertension and diabetes, was laid to rest on February 19, 2025, in his ancestral village of Murushekye, Kibuzigye Parish, Bubare Sub-County, Rubanda District.
The funeral Mass, attended by thousands of mourners, local leaders, and dignitaries, was a solemn occasion to honor Kururagire’s life and legacy.
During the Mass, Byarugaba Gustino, the catechist at Kibuzigye Catholic Church, spoke to the congregation about the importance of Christians preparing for life after death. He urged everyone to reflect on their current state, future plans, and ultimate destination.
Gustino also took a moment to commend Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba for his significant contributions to the development of Kibuzigye Seed School.
The school, which had previously suffered from declining enrollment, has seen a remarkable turnaround with the construction of new permanent structures. This term, over 100 students have enrolled in Senior One.
In his remarks, Chairman Kasyaba announced an additional fund of 800 million shillings to further develop Kibuzigye Seed School. However, he pointed out that the school would not be officially designated as a “seed school” until the government constructs more structures.
The funeral Mass also featured speeches from other local leaders, including former Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema.
Biryabarema cautioned against division within the community, especially as the NRM primaries approach. Chairman Kasyaba echoed this warning, stressing that the upcoming election should not become a “do or die” affair.
