The family of city businessman Mohan Kiwanuka and his wife, former Finance Minister and current Presidential Advisor Maria Kiwanuka, is mourning the sudden death of their son, Kyamukunguya Nsereko Kiwanuka, popularly known as Kyamu.
According to family sources, burial will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the family’s ancestral grounds in Kiwatule, Kampala. Nsereko’s body arrived in Uganda on Sunday evening from Washington D.C., United States, where he collapsed and died of a heart attack.
Family members say the news came as a shock since Nsereko had been in good health until the time of his death.
Beyond his personal life, the late Nsereko had been a key figure in the ongoing legal battles over Mohan Kiwanuka’s vast estate. He had recently sided with his mother, Maria Kiwanuka, in challenging court rulings that granted children from Mohan’s first marriage authority to manage several properties and businesses.
His passing is now seen as another twist in what has already been a long and bitter family dispute over wealth and inheritance.
The funeral in Kiwatule is expected to draw relatives, friends, business associates, and government officials who will pay their last respects to the young man whose life ended unexpectedly.
